Is this happening in your home?

Almost every family who rings our nasha mukti kendra in Solan begins the same way. Something has been wrong for months, the explanations stopped adding up a while ago, and nobody in the house wants to say the word out loud. In a town full of hostels, PG rooms and students living away from their parents, the first person to notice is often a landlord or a warden rather than a mother. These are the signs families in Solan describe to us.

  • Foil, a lighter, burnt silver paper, a cut straw or syringes in his room
  • Drinking every evening without fail, and from the morning on a day off
  • Hostel or PG money, fees money or shop money that keeps disappearing
  • Sudden weight loss, grey skin, sleeping all day and awake all night
  • Shaking, sweating, vomiting or cramps on a day he cannot get a dose
  • Strips of tablets or a bottle of cough syrup bought again and again, with no prescription
  • Attendance gone, a semester quietly failed, or a job changed with no clear reason
  • Gold, a phone, a laptop or tools from the shop quietly gone missing
  • New friends you have never met, long nights out, and a phone he guards
  • Anger, lies, and promises to stop that never last past the next week

If your son is studying or working here and your home is in another district or another state, the signs reach you late and over the phone. A voice that is slurred and vague, money asked for twice in a month, and visits home that keep getting postponed are worth taking seriously rather than explaining away.

None of this makes him a bad son or a bad husband. Addiction is an illness that changes the brain, and like any illness it answers to proper treatment rather than to shame. If you are quietly wondering whether somebody at home is using, this guide in Hindi may help: ghar mein koi chitta le raha hai, and chitta kaise chhode explains what quitting actually involves. The hardest part is the first phone call, and you do not need the right words for it.

Family counselling session at our nasha mukti kendra in Solan district

What our nasha mukti kendra in Solan treats

The mix here is shaped by one road and one fact. The Kalka to Shimla highway runs straight through this district from the Haryana and Punjab plains, and heroin has been the single biggest item in Solan's NDPS caseload for years. Men who reach our de-addiction centre in Solan district are usually on chitta and sharab, or sharab and tablets. We assess the whole picture at admission and build one plan around it.

Chitta, heroin, smack and brown sugar

Chitta takes hold within weeks and the withdrawal is brutal, which is why almost nobody manages to stop at home. Reporting on this district has put heroin at roughly four fifths of all NDPS cases, with 18 to 35 year olds worst affected. Chitta ka ilaj here starts with medically supervised detox: the right medication, monitoring and nursing round the clock, so the vomiting, cramps, sweats and sleeplessness are managed rather than endured. After that comes months of counselling and relapse prevention, because the body clears in days and the habit does not.

Sharab: alcohol, country liquor and lahan

Sharab is the commonest reason families here pick up the phone. It is legal, it is everywhere, and nobody counts it as a nasha until the liver, the money or the marriage gives way. Stopping suddenly after years of heavy drinking can cause tremors, seizures and hallucinations, so sharab chudane ka ilaj has to begin with medical care, not willpower. We start with supervised detox, then treat the liver, sleep, nutrition and the depression that sharab ki lat usually sits on top of. More in our guide to alcohol addiction recovery.

Goliyon ka nasha, tablets and cough syrup

Tramadol, alprazolam, pregabalin and codeine syrup come out of a strip or a bottle, so nobody calls it a nasha and nobody smells anything. In a district that is also one of the country's largest pharmaceutical manufacturing belts, families here notice it even later than most. Dependence is real, and stopping a benzodiazepine or pregabalin abruptly after months of heavy use can cause seizures, so we taper under medical supervision and then treat what he was medicating in the first place.

Injecting, mixed use and overdose risk

Injecting carries the highest risks of all: overdose, abscesses, hepatitis and HIV. Mixing makes it unpredictable, because a man on chitta who also drinks heavily is combining two things that both slow breathing. Synthetic opioids such as fentanyl are not a significant issue in Himachal at present, but adulterated chitta of unknown strength is, and that is enough. We screen for infection, refer where needed and detox with extra caution. If he is injecting, say so on the first call rather than at admission.

Charas, ganja and bhang

Charas moves into this district from Kullu and across the Punjab and Haryana lines, and among college students here it gets treated as normal rather than as a drug. Most people who try it never develop a problem. The men we see moved from evenings to all day, stopped finishing anything, and by the time anybody acted were on something stronger too. Charas ganja treatment is part of the same residential programme, worked through CBT, routine, fitness and honest group therapy.

Opium, afeem, doda, bhukki and chura post

Opium is not only a plains problem here. Poppy has been found growing in the interior of this district, and doda and chura post travel with the freight traffic on the highway. Poppy husk causes real physical dependence and is commonest among older men, drivers and labourers, often going back decades. Coming off doda or bhukki needs a medically managed taper, then the full residential programme, because a habit that old is never only about the substance.

Is withdrawal dangerous at home?

Sometimes, yes, and this is the part families most often get wrong. Locking a man in a back room until the nasha passes is not treatment. With alcohol, sudden withdrawal can bring on seizures and delirium tremens, which can kill. With alprazolam and other sleeping tablets, the same risk applies.

With chitta it is rarely fatal on its own, but the pain and sickness are so severe that almost everyone uses again within a day or two, and tolerance drops fast, so the dose he goes back to can be the one that stops his breathing. If he has ever had a fit, has liver trouble, is diabetic, is on tablets as well as sharab, or is drinking from the moment he wakes, do not attempt this at home. Call our nasha mukti kendra in Solan district or take him straight to the regional hospital.

What makes the best nasha mukti kendra in Solan for de-addiction?

Every one of them calls itself the best nasha mukti kendra in Solan. Search from here and the results come back from Chandigarh, Punjab, Panchkula and Zirakpur as readily as from Himachal, most of them registered under an authority you cannot check from this district. That makes choosing harder, not easier, and this district has already seen what an unwatched centre does. Before you trust any rehab centre in Solan with your son, ask for these six things and watch how quickly you get a straight answer.

Registered, and in the state you can check

We hold Provisional Registration Sr. No. 193 from the HP State Mental Health Authority, Shimla. On this border the second half matters as much as the first. A centre in Punjab, Haryana or Chandigarh cannot be checked against the Himachal register at all, and plenty of what you will find advertised to Solan sits on the other side of a line. Ask any nasha mukti kendra which authority registered it, for the serial number, and for a photograph of the certificate.

Medical detox, not a locked room

Withdrawal is managed with medication, monitoring and nursing round the clock. Cold turkey behind a bolted gate is not treatment, and with sharab or with tablets it can be dangerous rather than merely cruel. Ask who prescribes, ask what happens at three in the morning, and ask specifically what they do with a man coming off chitta who has also been drinking. A serious de-addiction centre has that answer ready.

Long enough to survive the walk back

Short stays rarely hold, and here the reason is concrete: he goes back to the same hostel, the same chowk, the same friends and the same supply on the same highway. Fifteen days does nothing against that. Six months gives the body time to repair and the mind time to build something that survives the first week home. We will tell you honestly what a shorter stay can and cannot do.

Family inside the treatment

Parents, wives and brothers learn how addiction works and how to help without quietly funding the next dose. For families whose son studies or works here while they live elsewhere, that often means doing it by phone, and we treat those sessions as part of the programme rather than as a favour. A centre that keeps the family outside the gate is treating a body, not a person.

Fees written down, and no surprises at the gate

Our fees for the nasha mukti kendra in Solan families use are published in full on this page, before you ring. Anything outside them, such as a hospital referral or transport, is discussed with the family before a rupee is spent. Nobody should learn the real price after driving most of a day with their son, and nobody should be quoted a different number because of where they are from.

Run by someone who has been there

Our founder, Eshan Pathania, is five years in recovery himself and is at the centre daily. He knows exactly what your son is going through, which excuses to expect, and what it takes to come out the other side. Ask any centre who runs it and whether you can meet that person. The answer tells you most of what you need to know.

Why families call us the top nasha mukti kendra in Solan district

Not because we say so. Because those six points are checkable from a phone in Chambaghat or Kandaghat at midnight, and because a top nasha mukti kendra in Solan district should be willing to say no when its programme is not right for your son. Sometimes the better answer for a family here is the psychiatry OPD at the regional hospital and an outpatient start, and we say so. We never promise a cure, we never quote a success rate, and we do not use the words "100% recovery". Addiction is a long illness with relapses in it.

If you are not sure what you are even looking for, read the difference between a rehab centre and a nasha mukti kendra, and what actually happens inside a rehab centre, before you ring anybody. If cost is the thing stopping you, start with the most affordable nasha mukti kendra in Himachal.

Comparing the best nasha mukti kendra in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, or the best rehabilitation centre in Solan for drug and alcohol de-addiction, against whichever centre has paid for the top advertisement? Come and visit, ask the six questions, and hold us to every one.

Searching for a nasha mukti kendra near me in Solan?

Most families looking for a nasha mukti kendra in Solan find us at two in the morning, typing nasha mukti kendra near me, rehab near me, best rehab centre near me or de-addiction centre near me into a phone after another bad night. From here that search returns Chandigarh, Panchkula, Zirakpur and Mohali as readily as it returns Himachal. Whether you are in Solan town, Chambaghat, Salogra, Barog, Dharampur, Kumarhatti, Kasauli, Parwanoo, Subathu, Kandaghat, Chail, Arki, Kunihar, Darlaghat or Ramshehar, here is what that search should honestly lead you to.

A rehab centre in Solan families can actually verify

Our centre is at Village Tanda Kholi in Kangra district and we take men from right across Solan district. What we promise is that a counsellor answers at any hour, that our registration number is printed on this page, and that we will plan the journey with you before you start it. If you searched for a nasha mukti kendra near me from a hostel room or a shop that shuts at ten, tell us and we will plan the day around that.

A nasha mukti kendra in Solan with real medical cover

The best nasha mukti kendra near me is the one that can keep him safe while the drug leaves his body. We detox under medical supervision with 24x7 nursing, a pharmacist on the team and doctor and psychiatrist reviews, and a government medical college hospital sits on our doorstep at Tanda if a resident ever needs more than we can give. For a man coming off chitta, off daily sharab, or off both at once, that cover is the whole point and not an extra.

A de-addiction centre in Solan you can check

A de-addiction centre near me is only worth the money if you can verify it, and in this district that matters more than anywhere. The State Mental Health Authority has itself shut centres in the Parwanoo area after inmates died. Any page can call itself the best nasha mukti kendra in Solan; very few will hand you a certificate with a serial number on it.

That is the difference between a top nasha mukti kendra in an advertisement and one you can stand inside. Our registration number is printed on this page, our fees are published, our team is named with their qualifications, and you are welcome to walk in and look at the rehab centre in Solan families are trusting their son to. A rehabilitation centre near me is a real answer only when the registration, the doctor and the fees are all things you can put your hand on. That is as true of a drug rehabilitation centre in Solan as it is of any other.

Chitta, sharab and drugs: what Solan is facing

If you feel your family is the only one, the record says otherwise. Solan sits on the main road between the Punjab and Haryana plains and the Himachal hills, in a district that has been near the top of the state's NDPS tables for years and that still has no government residential de-addiction centre of its own. None of what follows is meant to frighten you. It is meant to tell you that what is happening in your house is a known, treatable pattern.

81NDPS cases registered in the Solan police district between January and September 2025, with 67 more in the Baddi police district alongside it

4 in 5roughly the share of this district's NDPS cases involving heroin, with 18 to 35 year olds worst affected

0government residential de-addiction centres operating in Solan district, despite money allocated for one years ago

A district built on a highway

Start with the geography, because almost everything else follows from it. Solan is the district headquarters, sitting on the Kalka to Shimla highway at about 1,500 metres, roughly midway between Chandigarh and the state capital. Everything that moves between the plains and the hills passes through here or through Parwanoo at the district's gate.

Around that road the district holds three things that shape its drug problem: a very large student population across Shoolini, Chitkara, Jaypee at Waknaghat, Maharaja Agrasen and the colleges in between; the army cantonments at Subathu, Dagshai and Kasauli; and industrial estates at Chambaghat and Parwanoo plus the pharmaceutical belt at Baddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh.

That is a lot of young men, many of them living away from their families, with cash in hand and a supply route running past the door. We are not describing a moral failure. We are describing a risk profile.

Police figures, and the line that keeps rising

The numbers have been climbing for years. Reporting on this district recorded 166 arrests under the NDPS Act in one year and 201 arrests across 97 cases in the next, with heroin accounting for about four fifths of cases and 18 to 35 year olds worst affected.

The scale of the enforcement since then is easier to grasp in one figure. A police account of the drive from July 2023 onwards put it at 118 NDPS cases, 278 smugglers arrested of whom 111 came from other states, more than 40 inter-state heroin networks dismantled and property worth Rs 3.53 crore seized from seven accused. In a separate action the police seized assets worth Rs 1.25 crore belonging to five drug peddlers in two cases.

Across Himachal as a whole the trend is the same. Between January and September 2025 the state registered 1,618 NDPS cases, 33 per cent more than the year before, and chitta seizures rose from 7.8 kg to 10.92 kg, up 28.2 per cent. Within that, the Solan police district recorded 81 cases and the Baddi police district 67. Taken together that is 148 cases in one district in nine months.

Chitta, and three state lines

What those numbers look like on the ground is a chain of seizures along the highway and in the towns beside it. Four young men from Jalandhar and Ludhiana were held at Chatri Mor near Kasauli with 62.13 grams of heroin, which the police said was about to be supplied to youths and students in Kasauli, Dharampur and nearby areas. That sentence is the whole problem in one line.

The trade is not local and it is not amateur. Two men were arrested at Dohri Dawal in this district with 157 grams of heroin, both residents of Kaithal in Haryana and one of them a serving head constable. A supply chain traced backwards from two arrests at Kandaghat led the police across the border to a main supplier picked up at Mahuli in Punjab in February 2026, with the consignment bought in Mohali.

Smaller cases fill in the map. Four young men were held with chitta at Salogra and Garkhal in January 2026, and two more at Bathol in May 2026. Those are village names, not city ones. We name no victims and no accused on this page.

Arki, Kunihar and Darlaghat

The interior of the district is not quiet either, and families there often feel furthest from help. Cannabis and opium are grown in the back valleys rather than bought on the highway. In Darlaghat the police seized 381 illegal opium plants from a field in front of a house, acting on a tip-off during evening patrolling, and the Arki police have made their own cannabis arrests in the same belt.

Arki, Kunihar, Darlaghat, Ramshehar, Krishangarh and Mamligh are a long way from a psychiatry OPD and further still from any residential bed. Men from all of them reach us.

Kasauli, Parwanoo, Dharampur and the cantonments

The Kalka road end of the district has a different pattern again: students at the schools and colleges, soldiers and ex-servicemen around Subathu, Dagshai and Kasauli, and factory workers at Parwanoo. Police statements about seizures here keep using the same phrase, that the contraband was headed for young people in Kasauli, Dharampur and the villages around them.

Parwanoo is also where this district learned what an unwatched private centre can do, which is dealt with properly further down this page.

Overdose, and the deaths nobody counts properly

The cost shows up late and understated. In one 72-day stretch in early 2025, 13 people died of suspected drug overdose across Himachal, one of them in Solan district. In the state assembly the Chief Minister put drug overdose deaths at 66 over three years, with 31 in 2024 alone, and a survey of more than 7,500 adolescents found 34 per cent of those surveyed using chitta.

Those are only the ones recorded as overdoses. If the man in your house is injecting or mixing chitta with sharab, that risk is not somebody else's.

Sharab, lahan and the liquor that crosses the line

Chitta gets the headlines. Sharab does more damage across more households in Solan, and it is almost invisible because nobody is breaking a law by drinking.

The trade around it does break the law, and this district sits on the cheapest smuggling route in the state. The excise department has reported more than 10,500 litres of illicit liquor and 21,630 litres of lahan seized and destroyed in a single financial year to date, with significant recoveries from Shimla, Baddi and Kullu, and officials have noted that the surge is driven by cheaper alcohol in neighbouring states and Chandigarh. At Parwanoo, at the district's gate, one check alone turned up 700 boxes of liquor being brought in illegally.

The families who ring us about drinking say the same things. He still goes to work. He has never hit anyone. It is only in the evening. All of that can be true while the liver, the sleep, the money and the marriage are going. Stopping heavy daily drinking suddenly can cause tremors, seizures and hallucinations, so sharab chudane ka ilaj has to start with medical care rather than a promise.

What the government and police are doing

There is movement. Solan was chosen among 272 districts nationally for the Drugs Free India campaign, with a cannabis uprooting drive from 20 June to 31 August, opium destruction wherever found, surprise inspections of chemist shops, school lectures and promotion of the Tele MANAS helpline on 14416. Nodal officers were appointed across the forest, panchayati raj, health, police, excise, transport, tourism and youth services departments.

At state level, the government has sanctioned Rs 5.34 crore for a 100-bed de-addiction centre at Kotla Barog in Sirmaur and said five more centres are being established, including one in Solan district, while four men's centres currently operate in Kullu, Una, Hamirpur and Kangra. The national Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan runs alongside, and district information is at hpsolan.nic.in.

None of it treats the man already sitting in your house tonight. The AIIMS national survey, Magnitude of Substance Use in India, found that only about one person in 38 with alcohol dependence anywhere in India gets any help at all. That part is yours to start, and it starts with a phone call.

Is your nasha mukti kendra in Solan registered? How to check

In this district this is the most important question on the whole page, and it matters far more than any best nasha mukti kendra in Solan claim you will read. Solan has more private de-addiction centres than most districts in Himachal, and it has already had centres closed down after people died inside them. Five minutes here can save you from handing your son to people who have no business taking him.

This district has already shown why

In 2020 the Himachal Pradesh State Mental Health Authority withdrew the provisional registrations of two de-addiction centres in the Parwanoo area of this district and shut them, after two inmates died within three months and inspections found serious lapses in care. Separately, a rehabilitation centre at Parwanoo was closed after staff were caught consuming heroin inside it. We name nobody. We raise it because it happened here, under the same authority that registered us.

The law says registration is compulsory

Under Section 65 of the Mental Healthcare Act 2017, no mental health establishment may run without being registered with the State Mental Health Authority. A de-addiction centre, a rehab or a nasha mukti kendra is a mental health establishment. There is no exemption for a small place, a charitable place, or one that calls itself only a hostel or an ashram.

What provisional registration means

Under Section 66, a new establishment is first given provisional registration. It is valid for twelve months, it is renewable, and it is the step before permanent registration, which follows an inspection. Ours is Sr. No. 193, issued by the HP State Mental Health Authority, Shimla, on 14/05/2026 under Sections 66(4) and 66(11).

Why "government approved" often means nothing

Plenty of centres across Himachal, Punjab and Haryana advertise themselves as government approved on the strength of a trust deed, a society registration or a GST number. None of those is a licence to run a nasha mukti kendra in Himachal Pradesh or to treat anybody for drug de-addiction. A registration certificate from the State Mental Health Authority, with a serial number on it, is the only document that counts.

How to check any centre in five minutes

Ask to see the registration certificate and note the serial number. Ask which authority issued it and when it expires. Ask how many men are inside and how many beds it is registered for. Ask for the name of the doctor who prescribes during detox. Ring the HP State Mental Health Authority in Shimla on 0177-2633601 and confirm. If a centre gets annoyed at any of that, walk away.

Our papers, on the page and on the wall

Sr. No. 193 is printed at the top and the bottom of this page, and the certificate hangs at the centre where you can read it. Our trust registration, No. 2025/19/IV/123, is a separate document and we do not pretend it is a treatment licence. Come and inspect both, count the beds, and meet the staff before you decide anything. Our guide to the best rehabilitation centre in Himachal Pradesh walks through the same checks for any centre in the state.

The 180-day programme at our nasha mukti kendra in Solan

Every man admitted follows the same eight stages, whether he came in from a hostel in Solan town or from a village beyond Arki. The pace changes from man to man. The structure does not. 180 days is what we recommend, but the programme is flexible, fees are monthly, and a shorter stay costs less. Our guide to what happens in a rehab centre walks through a stay day by day, and our de-addiction treatment page sets out the clinical side.

  1. Admission and assessment

A confidential medical and psychiatric assessment of his substance history, physical health, mental health and family situation, then a written treatment plan made for him and explained to you.

  2. Medically supervised detox

Withdrawal from chitta, sharab, charas, doda or tablets is managed with the right medication, regular monitoring and 24x7 nursing, so it is as safe and as bearable as it can be made.

  3. Psychiatric and psychological therapy

Addiction rarely arrives alone. One-to-one sessions and CBT work on the depression, anxiety, anger, grief or trauma that is usually sitting underneath the nasha.

  4. 12-step programme and group therapy

Daily group meetings where men learn from each other, hold each other to account, hear their own excuses in someone else's mouth, and find out they are not the only one.

  5. Yoga, meditation and fitness

Mornings begin with yoga and meditation on the lawn, facing the Dhauladhar. Exercise, sport and regular meals rebuild a body that chitta or sharab has run down.

  6. Family counselling

Parents, wives and siblings learn how addiction works, how to rebuild trust slowly, and how to support recovery without quietly funding the next relapse.

  7. Relapse prevention

Before discharge, every man writes his own plan: his triggers, his warning signs, the people he will call, and what the first hour of each day at home will look like.

  8. Aftercare and follow-up

Discharge is not goodbye. We stay in touch through follow-up calls and reviews, and the helpline stays open to him and to his family for as long as they need it.

Admission at our nasha mukti kendra in Solan: first day, visits and calls

Families ask our rehab centre in Solan district the same practical questions on every first call, and here they are usually about the college, the job and who finds out. They deserve real answers rather than "don't worry". Here is what actually happens.

Will his college or employer find out?

Not from us. We do not contact colleges or employers, we do not confirm to anyone who rings that a particular man is here, and we put nothing in writing to an institution. If he needs a medical certificate for leave, that is between him, his doctor and whoever he answers to, and he controls it. Families in Solan ask about this before they ask about fees, which tells you how much it weighs.

He is a student. Does he lose the year?

Not necessarily, and that fear keeps families waiting far too long. Most colleges here have a medical leave route, a repeat semester or a gap provision, and recovery with a year lost beats a degree finished by someone who is still using. Talk to us before you talk to the college; a counsellor will help you think through the timing and what, if anything, needs to be said.

What to bring

His Aadhaar or any other photo ID, your own ID, and any old prescriptions, discharge summaries or test reports. Bring a few sets of clothes, slippers, a towel and basic toiletries, and no cash or valuables. If he has lost his documents, which happens, call anyway and we will tell you what we can work with rather than turning you away at the gate after a day on the road.

When he refuses help

Refusal is part of the illness, not proof that treatment will fail. Nearly every man here said no first. Do not argue during a craving or at the end of a bad night; speak in a calm hour, say what you have seen rather than what he is, and make one concrete offer. Call us beforehand and a counsellor will help you plan that conversation, and will speak to him directly if that helps.

The first day and the first week

Assessment, paperwork, a medical check, then a room and a meal. Detox usually begins the same day. The first three to five days are the hardest, with poor sleep, aches, sweats and a lot of anger, and nursing runs through the night for exactly that reason. If he is coming off chitta as well as sharab, the plan accounts for both from day one rather than improvising later. Any nasha mukti kendra worth your money should already have that answer ready.

Visits, calls, and after discharge

Both are planned with the counsellors, usually after the first stabilisation period, because contact during withdrawal turns into pleading to come home. Given the distance, most families from Solan visit about once a month and we combine it with the family counselling session so one journey does both. He leaves with a written relapse prevention plan and a follow-up schedule. If he slips, tell us early; a slip caught in a week is a setback, one hidden for three months is usually a full relapse.

Nasha mukti kendra in Solan: fees, stated plainly

Families comparing a top nasha mukti kendra in Solan against the cheaper options almost always start with cost, and they are right to. We publish everything. The treatment is identical in every plan; only the room and the diet change. Fees are monthly, so a shorter stay costs less. Government options for Solan families, honestly compared

No nasha mukti kendra in Solan should pretend the free route does not exist. We are a private charitable trust and we charge fees. For some families the government route is the right first stop, and for some it is the only affordable one. This is what is actually within reach of Solan, with the details we could verify.

Regional Hospital Solan and the psychiatry route

For a psychiatric assessment on paper, which matters if you may later need a formal opinion, the district hospital at Solan is the usual route and costs almost nothing. Ask for the psychiatry OPD and ask specifically about de-addiction. An assessment there is worth having even if you then choose a private residential programme, because it gives you a written starting point rather than an argument at home.

The nearest hospital, for anything urgent

If he has collapsed, is fitting, has stopped breathing properly or cannot be woken, the nearest hospital is the answer and not a phone search. Regional Hospital Solan, the civil hospitals at Kandaghat, Arki and Nalagarh and the ESI hospital at Parwanoo all take emergencies. Withdrawal seizures and overdose are medical emergencies. Go first, ring us after.

The gap, stated plainly

Solan district has had rising NDPS caseloads and no government residential de-addiction centre, a gap reported publicly for years with Rs 70 lakh allocated by the Welfare Department and the centre still not operational for want of groundwork. That is not your failure to find something. It is the reason families here end up choosing between private centres, and exactly why checking registration matters so much in this district.

What is coming

The state has said five more de-addiction centres are being established, including one in Solan district, alongside the sanctioned 100-bed facility at Kotla Barog in Sirmaur. Four government centres for men currently operate in Kullu, Una, Hamirpur and Kangra. If a bed in Solan opens, take it. Until then, ask the Chief Medical Officer's office what is running, because the answer changes.

The helplines, which do work

The national de-addiction helpline on 14446 and Tele MANAS on 14416 are free, answer in Hindi, and will talk to a family member rather than only to the person using. The district's own anti-drug campaign promotes 14416 for exactly this reason. If you are reading this at three in the morning and cannot do anything else tonight, do that.

Where we differ, plainly

Government treatment is free or nearly free, and that matters enormously. What an OPD cannot offer is a six-month residential stay, a named counsellor throughout, family sessions built into the programme, 24x7 nursing through detox, or a bed on the day you call. We charge for those things. Our guides to government nasha mukti kendras in Himachal Pradesh and government de-addiction centres in Shimla explain how the state system works. If the free route can do what your family needs, take it, and we will say so.

The people Solan families will meet

These are the faces behind the nasha mukti kendra in Solan families send their sons to: the counsellors, the nurse, the pharmacist and the trainers he will see every day. Nobody here is a name on a website you cannot meet, and after what has been reported inside some centres in this district, that should matter to you.

Voices of recovery

Shared with permission by men who finished the programme at our nasha mukti kendra in Solan district. Families here ask us constantly whether any of this really works, so we would rather let three of them answer than answer for ourselves.

“I had written myself off long before I got here. Nobody shouted and nobody locked me up. At this nasha mukti kendra they treated me like a man still worth saving, and I stayed the full 180 days of the de-addiction programme. I walked out of that rehabilitation centre with my life back in my own hands.”

Dinkar, former resident of our nasha mukti kendraDinkar

“What happens at this de-addiction centre is real medical care, not punishment, and that is the whole difference. The detox and drug de-addiction got me clean; the counselling made me face things I had run from for years. I left this rehab with a plan on paper and I still follow it every morning.”

Farhan, former resident of our nasha mukti kendraFarhan

“Yoga at six with the Dhauladhar in front of us, group meetings every evening, and staff who never gave up on me even when I had given up on chitta ever letting go. I came in needing an alcohol treatment centre as much as anything else, because sharab was half of it. Piece by piece this place rebuilt me and my family has me back.”

How to reach our nasha mukti kendra in Solan area

Our centre is at Village Tanda Kholi in Kangra district, and families from across Solan district bring their sons to us there. The whole journey is planned with you on the phone before you set out, so you know what the day looks like, what papers to bring and that a bed is waiting when you arrive.

Why our rehab centre in Solan's state sits away from the highway

Distance is not a drawback here. It is part of the treatment. A man in recovery who can walk back to the same chowk, the same hostel gate and the same two people who always have something on them is fighting his illness with one hand tied. On a corridor where supply arrives from Chandigarh and Punjab within the hour, that is even truer. Putting real distance between him and all of it is exactly what the first months need.

It also means privacy. In a district where colleges, cantonments and factory towns all run on reputation, families here ask us constantly who will come to know. Nobody at the centre is from your town, nobody will recognise him in the corridor, and what he tells people afterwards is entirely his own decision.

Being further away does not mean being cut off. Visits and family counselling sessions are planned so that one journey does both, we update you by phone through the week, and aftercare after discharge runs on the phone rather than on the road.

Towns and villages around Solan we serve

Men reach our de-addiction centre in Solan area from the whole district: the town itself, the Kalka road, the Chail and Kandaghat side, and the Arki hills behind. If your place is not named here, it is still covered; call and ask.

  • Solan town and aroundSolan, Chambaghat, Salogra, Saproon, Oachghat, Shamti, Deonghat, Anji, Jatoli, Sultanpur, Barog and Rabon.

  • Arki, Kunihar and DarlaghatArki, Kunihar, Darlaghat, Ramshehar, Dharja, Bathol, Kandaar and the villages down towards Ghumarwin.
  • The BBN beltBaddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh are covered in detail on our rehab centre in Baddi page, and families from there reach us on exactly the same terms.

Because the centre sits in Kangra district, families travelling up from Solan often also read our nasha mukti kendra in Kangra page, and the rehab centre in Bilaspur or rehab centre in Hamirpur pages if they are breaking the journey there. Coming the other way through Una, the rehab centre in Una page covers the same road, and families going on past Kangra use the rehab centre in Dharamshala and rehab centre in Palampur pages. It is the same centre, the same team and the same fees whichever page brought you here. You can also start at our main site or our contact page.

  • From the Solan bus stand

HRTC and private buses run all day from the Solan bus stand on the Kalka to Shimla highway. The simplest way is a bus to Bilaspur or Hamirpur and a change there for Kangra, Dharamshala or Pathankot. There are also direct Shimla to Dharamshala services that pass through, and Chandigarh to Dharamshala services if you go down to Parwanoo or Kalka first. Get down at Tanda Medical College and take an auto for the last stretch. Start early; arriving in daylight makes admission easier on everyone.

  • By car or taxi

The usual route is out through Kunihar and Arki, past Darlaghat to Ghumarwin, then Hamirpur, Nadaun and Jawalamukhi to Kangra and Tanda. The alternative, which some drivers prefer, is down to Nalagarh and Swarghat, then Bilaspur, Una and Amb before turning for Kangra. Ask any driver for the FCI godown at Tanda Kholi, beside the medical college. Call us when you set out and again when you are close and we will talk you in.

  • By train

Solan has a station on the Kalka to Shimla narrow-gauge line, but it only takes you towards Kalka or Shimla, not towards us. On the broad gauge the practical station is Kalka, and from there Pathankot is the one to aim for, with a taxi of about two hours at the other end. The Kangra valley narrow-gauge line from Pathankot runs only in sections and its services are often disrupted, so do not plan a journey with a sick man around it. Almost every family we admit from Solan travels by road.

  • By air

Chandigarh is your nearest airport but it is the wrong direction for reaching us. Gaggal near Kangra, also called Dharamshala airport, is the nearest airport to our centre and a taxi from there comes almost straight to Tanda, with flights from Delhi. For almost everyone travelling from Solan the car is faster, cheaper and far easier with a man who is unwell.

Questions about our nasha mukti kendra in Solan

These are the questions families ask our nasha mukti kendra in Solan district most often. If yours is not here, call us, or look through our full FAQ page. Every conversation is private, there is no obligation, and nobody will be put under pressure to admit anyone.

Serving families across Solan and nearby villages. This map shows the area we serve; our centre's address is in the contact section below.

How far is your nasha mukti kendra from Solan?

Our centre is at Village Tanda Kholi in Kangra district. From Solan it is roughly 255 km by road via Arki, Darlaghat, Ghumarwin, Hamirpur and Jawalamukhi, about six to seven hours by car in normal conditions. A map on your phone will show you the exact route and timing on the day you travel. Ring before you set out so we can confirm a bed.

How do we reach you from Solan?

Most families drive, out through Kunihar and Arki, past Darlaghat to Ghumarwin, then Hamirpur, Nadaun and Jawalamukhi to Kangra and Tanda. Some drivers prefer going down to Nalagarh and Swarghat, then Bilaspur and Una. By bus, take a Bilaspur or Hamirpur service from the Solan bus stand and change there for Kangra, Dharamshala or Pathankot, getting down at Tanda Medical College. Ask any driver for the FCI godown at Tanda Kholi.

Is there a government nasha mukti kendra in Solan we should try first?

There is no government residential de-addiction centre operating in Solan district, a gap reported publicly for years with Rs 70 lakh allocated and the centre still not set up. The state has since said five more centres are being established, including one in Solan. What exists today is the psychiatry OPD at the regional hospital, the civil hospitals for emergencies, and the free helpline on 14446. Start with those before you pay anybody.

Which towns and villages around Solan do you take men from?

From across the district. Solan, Chambaghat, Salogra, Saproon, Oachghat, Shamti, Deonghat, Jatoli, Sultanpur, Barog, Dharampur, Kumarhatti, Subathu, Dagshai, Sanawar, Jabli, Kasauli, Garkhal, Parwanoo, Kandaghat, Chail, Sadhupul, Waknaghat, Kiarighat, Mamligh, Krishangarh, Arki, Kunihar, Darlaghat, Ramshehar and Bathol. Families from Baddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh reach us on the same terms. If your village is not on that list, call anyway.

Does Solan really have a drug problem, or is it being exaggerated?

It is not exaggerated. Between January and September 2025 the Solan police district registered 81 NDPS cases and the Baddi police district 67, in a year when state cases rose 33 per cent and chitta seizures rose 28.2 per cent. Reporting on this district has put heroin at about four fifths of NDPS cases, with 18 to 35 year olds worst affected, and a police account of one drive recorded 278 smugglers arrested and property worth Rs 3.53 crore seized.

Why does chitta reach Solan so easily?

Because the Kalka to Shimla highway runs through the district and Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana are an hour or two away. Couriers come up that road: four young men from Jalandhar and Ludhiana were held at Chatri Mor near Kasauli with 62.13 grams of heroin the police said was meant for students in Kasauli and Dharampur, and a supply chain traced back from Kandaghat arrests ended with a supplier in Punjab and a consignment bought in Mohali.

Our son is a student here and we live in another state. Can you still take him?

Yes, on exactly the same terms. A large part of the young population here has come from elsewhere to study or work, and that is true of many of the men we treat from this district. There is no different fee and no different programme. Bring whatever identity document he has. If the family is far away, we do the family counselling by phone and we do it properly rather than as an afterthought.

Will his college or hostel find out?

Not from us. We do not contact colleges, hostels or employers, we do not confirm to anyone who rings that a particular man is here, and nothing goes in writing to an institution. If he needs a medical certificate for leave, that is between him, his doctor and the college, and he controls it. Families in Solan ask us this more than almost anything else, and the answer has never changed.

Solan has several private centres. How do we choose between them?

Carefully, because this district has shown what goes wrong. In 2020 the State Mental Health Authority withdrew the provisional registrations of two de-addiction centres in the Parwanoo area and shut them after two inmates died within three months, and a rehabilitation centre at Parwanoo was closed after staff were caught consuming heroin inside it. Ask any centre for its registration certificate and serial number, how many beds it is registered for, how many men are inside today, and who prescribes during detox.

Why is your rehab centre in Solan's state located so far away?

Because keeping a man a short walk from the same chowk, the same hostel gate and the same two people who always have something on them is the fastest way to lose him in the first month. On a corridor where supply arrives from Chandigarh and Punjab within the hour, that is even truer. Space from that world is part of the treatment, and in a district built on reputation the distance also buys him a privacy no local centre could offer.

Can families from Solan visit during treatment?

Yes. Visits are planned with the counsellors, usually after the first stabilisation period, because contact during withdrawal turns into pleading to come home and sets recovery back. Given the distance, most families from this district come about once a month and we schedule the family counselling session for the same visit so that one journey does both. Between visits we update you by phone.

What should we do before travelling down with him from Solan?

Ring first. Nobody should set out on a six or seven hour drive without a confirmed bed. On that call a counsellor will ask what he is using and how much, how long it has been going on, whether he has had fits or blackouts, and what he has already tried. We will tell you what papers to bring, what the first week looks like, and honestly whether the regional hospital in Solan is the better first step tonight.

Is there a train from Solan to your nasha mukti kendra?

Not a useful one. The Solan station is on the Kalka to Shimla narrow-gauge line, which only takes you towards Kalka or Shimla. On the broad gauge, Kalka is the practical station and Pathankot is the one to aim for, with a taxi of about two hours at the other end. The Kangra valley narrow-gauge line runs only in sections and its services are often disrupted, so almost everyone from Solan travels by road.

We are in Arki or Kunihar, far from everything. Does that change anything?

Only the drive, and that works in your favour because the Arki and Darlaghat road is on the way to us. The interior of the district has its own problem, with opium and cannabis grown locally rather than bought on the highway; the police seized 381 illegal opium plants from a single field in Darlaghat. Admission, fees and the programme are identical wherever in the district you live.

Is lahan or home-brewed liquor less harmful than bottled sharab?

No. It is simply unmeasured, so neither he nor you know what he has drunk. The excise department has reported more than 10,500 litres of illicit liquor and 21,630 litres of lahan seized and destroyed in a single year across the state, and at Parwanoo one check alone turned up 700 boxes of liquor being brought in illegally. Dependence on lahan carries exactly the same withdrawal dangers, so the same medical detox applies.

We cannot afford to travel or to pay. What then?

Say so on the phone and we will be straight with you rather than waste your time. Start with the free routes: the psychiatry OPD at the regional hospital in Solan, the nearest civil hospital for anything urgent, and the national helpline on 14446. If a residential stay is genuinely what he needs and money is the only obstacle, tell us; we are a charitable trust, not a business, and the conversation is worth having.

Which is the best rehab center near me in Solan?

Judge any centre on six checkable things: a registration certificate from the State Mental Health Authority with a serial number, detox under medical supervision, a stay long enough to work, the family inside the treatment, fees in writing, and staff you are allowed to meet. We meet all six and we welcome you to verify each one. If you searched for rehab near me or nasha mukti kendra near me from anywhere in the district, call first and we will tell you honestly whether our programme suits your family.

Is there an alcohol treatment centre near me in Solan?

Alcohol is treated in the same residential programme as every other substance, so an alcohol treatment centre and a de-addiction centre near me are the same place here. Our alcohol de-addiction in Solan begins with medically supervised detox, because stopping heavy daily drinking suddenly can cause tremors, seizures and hallucinations, then treats the liver, sleep, nutrition and the depression underneath. It is one of the most common things we treat.

What is chitta ka ilaj at your centre?

It starts with medically supervised detox: medication to manage the cramps, vomiting, sweating and sleeplessness, with monitoring and nursing round the clock. Once he is stable, the real treatment begins, which is counselling, CBT for the depression or anxiety underneath, the 12-step programme, group therapy, yoga and fitness, family work and a written relapse prevention plan for the day he goes home.

How long does chitta treatment in Solan families ask about actually take?

Detox takes one to two weeks. Recovery takes much longer. We recommend 180 days in residence because chitta rarely lets go in 15 or 30 days, and the men who relapse fastest are almost always the ones who left early. The programme is flexible and fees are monthly, so a shorter stay is possible and costs less, but we will say plainly what it can and cannot achieve.

Is chitta withdrawal dangerous?

Chitta withdrawal is rarely fatal by itself, but it is severe enough that almost nobody gets through it alone at home. The greater danger comes afterwards. Once the body loses tolerance, going back to the old dose can stop his breathing, which is why so many overdose deaths happen soon after a failed attempt to quit. Detox under medical supervision removes both risks.

What are the signs of a chitta overdose, and what do we do?

Very slow or stopped breathing, blue lips or fingertips, pinpoint pupils, cold clammy skin, and a person who cannot be woken by shouting or shaking. This is an emergency. Call an ambulance or get him to the nearest hospital immediately, keep him on his side, and do not leave him alone or wait to see if he sleeps it off.

He has relapsed after chitta before. Is there any point trying again?

Yes. Relapse is part of this illness, not proof that he is beyond help, and many men here are on their second or third attempt. What matters is looking honestly at why the last one failed: a stay that was too short, a depression nobody treated, a family that was never involved, or no plan for the first week at home. We start there.

He injects. Is chitta de-addiction different for him?

The programme is the same but the medical care is more careful. Injecting brings the risk of overdose, abscesses, hepatitis B and C and HIV, so we screen at admission, treat infections or refer for them, and watch him more closely through detox. Tell us at assessment if he has been injecting, even if he has hidden it from you until now.

What is sharab chudane ka ilaj and how does it work?

It begins with medically supervised detox, because alcohol is one of the few substances where stopping suddenly can be dangerous. After that we treat the whole picture: sleep, nutrition, liver and blood pressure, the depression or anxiety that usually sits underneath sharab ki lat, and the habits and company that keep it going. Counselling, the 12-step programme and family sessions run through the stay.

Is alcohol withdrawal dangerous at home?

It can be. After years of heavy daily drinking, stopping abruptly can cause tremors, confusion, hallucinations, seizures and delirium tremens, which can kill. If he drinks from the morning, has ever had a fit, or has liver trouble, do not lock him in a room and wait it out. Get him into medical care, either with us or at a hospital.

My husband drinks every day but still goes to work. Does he need alcohol rehab in Solan?

Holding down a job does not mean the drinking is under control; it usually means the crash has not arrived yet. The questions that matter are whether he can stop for a week without feeling ill, whether the amount keeps rising, whether money and sleep and temper have changed, and whether he drinks before noon. If you are frightened of him or of the bills, that is reason enough to call.

My father has been drinking for thirty years. Is he too old for a de-addiction centre in Solan district to help?

No. We take men aged 18 and above with no upper age limit, and older men often do very well because the motivation is real and the denial has worn thin. What changes is the medical side: we look harder at the liver, the heart, blood pressure, diabetes and nutrition, and the detox is managed more slowly and more carefully.

What is goliyon ka nasha, and do you treat it?

It is dependence on tablets and capsules rather than powder: tramadol, pregabalin, alprazolam, codeine syrup and similar. There is no needle, no foil and no smell, so families often miss it for a long time, and in a district that manufactures pharmaceuticals on a large scale it is easier to come by than most people think. It is still real dependence, it still needs a medically managed taper, and we treat it in the same programme.

Do you treat charas, ganja, bhang, doda and opium as well?

Yes, all of them, inside the same residential programme. Charas, ganja and bhang are treated mainly with CBT, routine and fitness. Opium, afeem, doda, bhukki and poppy husk need a medically managed taper, and in this district that is a real part of what we do. Cocaine and MDMA, which turn up around the colleges, are treated in the same programme.

What is the difference between a rehabilitation center and a de addiction center?

In India the words are used interchangeably, and a nasha mukti kendra usually means the same thing again. Strictly, a de-addiction centre handles the medical side, which is detox and getting the substance out safely, while rehabilitation covers the months of counselling, therapy and relapse prevention that follow. A good centre does both, which is what we do. Our full explainer on the difference between a rehab centre and a nasha mukti kendra goes through it properly.

What actually happens inside a rehab centre day to day?

An early start with yoga and meditation, breakfast, then group therapy and one-to-one counselling through the morning. Afternoons are rest, reading, skill-building, vocational work, fitness and games. Evenings bring sport, a 12-step meeting and quiet reflection, with fixed meal and sleep times throughout. Detox runs alongside this in the first weeks. Our guide to what happens in a rehab centre walks through a full stay.

Which is the best nasha mukti kendra in Solan, and how should we judge?

The best nasha mukti kendra in Solan for your family is the one you can check rather than the one with the loudest advertisement. Ask to see the State Mental Health Authority registration certificate, ask who prescribes during detox, ask how long the core stay is, ask what the family's role is, ask for the fees in writing, and ask to meet the staff. Any centre that avoids those questions has answered them.

Is your nasha mukti kendra in Solan district government registered?

Yes. We hold Provisional Registration Sr. No. 193 from the HP State Mental Health Authority, Shimla, under Sections 66(4) and 66(11) of the Mental Healthcare Act 2017, issued on 14/05/2026. The certificate is displayed at the centre and you are welcome to inspect it. We are also a registered charitable trust, but we do not pretend a trust deed is a treatment licence.

What are the fees?

Rs 12,500 a month for Shared Residential Care, Rs 25,000 a month for B Caring, which is a deluxe twin-sharing room with an upgraded diet, and Rs 40,000 a month for A Caring, which is a private room. Medically supervised detox is Rs 6,000, charged once at admission whichever plan you choose. The treatment is identical in every plan.

What is included in the monthly fee?

Accommodation, all meals, prescribed medication, doctor and psychiatrist reviews, individual counselling, group therapy, the 12-step programme, yoga, fitness and every activity at the centre, plus family counselling sessions. Anything outside this, such as a hospital referral or transport, is discussed with the family before it is spent.

Can we choose a shorter stay than 180 days?

Yes. The programme is flexible and fees are monthly, so a shorter stay costs less. Being honest about it: one month can get him safely through detox and stabilised. Three months adds real therapy and the beginnings of new habits. Six months is what gives a relapse prevention plan a fair chance of holding once he is back among the same people and places.

What if he refuses to come for treatment?

Almost everyone refuses at first, and that is the illness talking rather than a final answer. Do not raise it during a craving or a drunk evening. Choose a calm hour, describe what you have seen instead of what he is, and make one clear offer. Call us beforehand and a counsellor will help you plan that conversation, and will explain what the Mental Healthcare Act 2017 allows.

Can we admit him by force?

We do not do forced admissions and no lawful centre should. The Mental Healthcare Act 2017 sets out narrow conditions for supported admission, and they require a proper assessment rather than a family decision alone. In practice, a man dragged in against his will leaves as soon as he can. Getting him to agree, even reluctantly, is worth the extra week it takes.

Is admission confidential?

Completely. As a registered mental health establishment we are bound by the Mental Healthcare Act 2017 to keep his records private. Nothing is shared with employers, colleges, neighbours, panchayat members or anyone outside the treatment. Nobody at the centre will know your town, and nobody in your town needs to know where he has gone.

Who can be admitted, and what should we bring?

Men aged 18 and above, with no upper age limit. This is a male-only residential centre. Bring his Aadhaar or another photo ID, your own ID, and any old prescriptions or discharge papers. A few sets of clothes and basic toiletries are enough. Tell us at the assessment about seizures, liver problems, diabetes, TB, HIV or any psychiatric medicine he is on.

He has tried nasha chudane ka ilaj before and it failed. Why would this be different?

Because most failed attempts were not really treatment. A fortnight in a locked room is detox at best, and detox alone almost never holds. What changes the odds is length of stay, psychiatric care for what lies underneath, the family being taught how to help, and a written plan for the first weeks at home. If those four were missing last time, this will not be the same thing.

What happens after discharge?

Every man leaves with a written relapse prevention plan naming his triggers, his warning signs and the people he will call. Aftercare means follow-up calls and reviews through the first fragile months at home, and our helpline stays open to former residents and their families. If he slips, tell us early, because a slip caught in a week is far easier to turn around.
