Quick answer

Eshan Charitable Trust in Kangra is one of the most affordable options in Himachal because it is run as a charitable trust, not for profit. Every rupee of the fee goes back into the care: a full-time psychiatrist, medically supervised detox, daily counselling, yoga, ghar jaisa khana and a clean room. Nothing is cut to keep the fee low. Plans start at ₹12,500 a month, and families who cannot manage even that should still call.

Ask any family in Himachal who has gone looking for rehab and you will hear the same story. The good centres cost more than they can pay. The free ones can only do so much. So the family takes a loan, borrows from relatives, or picks the cheapest centre it can find and hopes for the best.

This blog is not a price list. It is about why we built Eshan the way we did, and why we believe it is the most affordable nasha mukti kendra in Himachal without cutting a single thing that matters for recovery.

A note on honesty: this guide is published by Eshan Charitable Trust, so it is our own story and our own view. We have tried to be fair to government hospitals and other centres. Facts and fees change, so please confirm everything by phone before admission.

Why Most Families in Himachal Cannot Afford Rehab

Addiction is not rare in our hills any more. Himachal Police registered 1,967 NDPS cases between January and November 2025, about 28% more than in 2024. Chitta, smack, charas and alcohol are now in villages, colleges and homes where nobody expected them. More families than ever need help.

But treatment costs money, and most Himachali families do not have much of it. Farming income is seasonal. Many homes depend on one earner, often the very person who is struggling. A directory of Himachal centres says basic shared-room care starts around ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 a month, and a national cost guide puts standard private rehab at ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000. Luxury centres in the big cities go far beyond that. Recovery is rarely a one-month job.

So families are pushed into bad choices. Some pay far beyond their means. Others choose the cheapest centre they can find, without asking whether it has a doctor. And some do nothing, which is the most dangerous choice of all. Our founder saw all three.

Why Free or Government Care Alone Often Falls Short

Government hospitals do important work, and we say that without any hesitation. If a bed is available, a government hospital is a good place for a first assessment and detox. IGMC Shimla treats addiction patients every day, a new de-addiction centre has been approved at Dr RPGMC Tanda, and Kullu has a Red Cross centre that treats women free of cost. Our list of government nasha mukti kendras in Himachal Pradesh explains how to reach them.

The problem is not the doctors. It is capacity and time. Wards have limited beds and stays are usually short. Detox clears the body, but it does not change the habits, friends, triggers and stress that led to the nasha in the first place. That work needs weeks of routine, daily counselling, and the family on board.

This is where things break. A person leaves after a short stay with no structured counselling, no relapse plan and no follow-up. They go straight back to the same street, the same friends, the same house. Doctors and counsellors commonly point to the weeks after discharge as the riskiest time for relapse, and that is what families tell us again and again. Many come to us after one or two rounds of short treatment that "did not hold".

Free care is not the failure. Free care with nothing after it is. That gap is exactly what we set out to fill.

Our Mission: Real Treatment at a Fee an Ordinary Family Can Pay

Our founder kept meeting Himachali families who had taken loans or borrowed heavily to pay for rehab. Others had sent their family members to cheaper centres with no doctor, where people were locked up and beaten.

He set up a charitable trust with one rule: proper psychiatrist-led treatment at a fee an ordinary Himachali family can pay. Not cheap care. Real care, made affordable.

Our vision

No family in Himachal should have to take a loan to get a family member proper addiction treatment. Good care should be affordable for every family, whatever their income.

That one idea shapes every decision we make. We are a registered charitable trust, not a business looking for a return. We do not measure ourselves by how full our rooms are or how much we earn. We measure ourselves by how many people walk out clean, and how many families get their home back.

How Eshan Stays the Most Affordable Nasha Mukti Kendra in Himachal

People often ask us how a centre with a full-time psychiatrist can charge ₹12,500 a month. The answer is simple. Nobody is taking a profit out of it.

Not for profitEshan is a charitable trust. The fee you pay is not turned into anybody's income. It goes back into running the centre.
The money goes into careDoctor, counsellors, food, a clean room, yoga, medicines for detox and family sessions. That is where the fee is spent.
We add our own moneyFood and daily running costs are heavy, and the fee alone does not always cover them. The trust puts in its own money to make up the gap.
No showpiece costsWe do not spend on a luxury lobby, big advertising or a sales team chasing families. We spend on people who treat patients.

This is why we say "affordable" and never "cheap". Cheap means you get less. At Eshan, you do not get less. You pay less because we take less.

Want to See What Rehab Centres Charge Across Himachal?

Every family wants to know the numbers before they decide, and that is fair. We have written a separate, detailed guide on rehab centre fees in Himachal Pradesh. It shows what centres usually charge, what the monthly fee should include, and what to ask before you pay.

If you would like to compare costs yourself, read it side by side with this page, then call us with any questions. We would rather you make an informed choice.

Three Plans, One Standard of Care

We offer three plans. All three get the same psychiatrist-led treatment. The only difference is the room and the amount of one-to-one time. The lowest plan is not a lesser plan.

Essential Care

₹12,500

per month

Shared room. Full treatment, detox, counselling, yoga and family sessions. Chosen by most families.

Comfort Care

₹25,000

per month

Fewer people per room, more privacy and more one-to-one time with counsellors.

Premium Care

₹40,000

per month

Private room and the most one-to-one attention. Same doctor, same programme.

If even ₹12,500 is hard for your family, please still call. As a trust, we look at each family's situation and offer reduced fees wherever we genuinely can. Please do not take a loan before you have spoken to us.

Affordable Should Never Mean Unsafe: How to Check Any Centre

We want every family to be careful, whichever centre you finally choose. A low fee is not the risk. A low fee with no doctor and no registration is.

Under the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017, de-addiction centres in Himachal must register with the Himachal Pradesh State Mental Health Authority and meet minimum standards for space, staff and facilities. Yet The Tribune has reported centres where patients were not examined by a doctor and money was charged for services never given, and where threats and physical force were used in the name of rehabilitation. In March 2025, officials shut an unregistered centre near Nurpur that had been running for months.

Before you pay anywhere, ask:

  • Is the centre registered with the HP State Mental Health Authority, and can it show proof?
  • Is there a named psychiatrist, and how often is he or she at the centre?
  • What exactly does the monthly fee include, and is there any admission charge?
  • Is anyone ever locked in, beaten or taken by force?
  • What is the plan after discharge?

Walk away if you see: no registration proof, no named doctor, a promise of "100% cure", locked rooms, a pick-up team that takes people by force, or a fee that jumps after you pay.

You can check any centre on the state mental health authority's website, which lists registered centres. Eshan is happy to share its registration details on request. We would rather you check than trust us blindly.

FAQs on the Most Affordable Nasha Mukti Kendra in Himachal

Which is the most affordable nasha mukti kendra in Himachal?

Government hospitals are the cheapest, often free or low cost, but beds are limited and stays are short. Among private centres, Eshan Charitable Trust in Kangra is one of the most affordable, with a full-time psychiatrist from ₹12,500 a month and reduced fees for families who cannot afford it.

Why is Eshan so affordable?

Eshan is a charitable trust, run not for profit. The fee goes back into care: the psychiatrist, counsellors, food, room and yoga. There is no luxury overhead, and the trust adds its own money where the fee falls short.

Does a low fee mean lower quality care?

Not at Eshan. Every plan includes a full-time psychiatrist, supervised detox, daily counselling, yoga, family sessions and aftercare. The plans differ only in room type and one-to-one time, not in the standard of treatment.

Does Eshan take a profit from resident fees?

No. Eshan is a registered charitable trust, and fees are used to run the centre and look after residents. Where costs such as food are higher than the fee, the trust covers the difference.

How much does the most affordable nasha mukti kendra in Himachal cost per month?

Directories put basic shared-room care in Himachal from around ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 a month. Eshan's plans are ₹12,500, ₹25,000 and ₹40,000 a month. Luxury centres outside the state can cost several lakh for 30 days.

What if I cannot afford ₹12,500 a month?

Please call us anyway on 062304 15581. As a charitable trust, we look at each family's situation and offer reduced fees where we genuinely can. You can also start with a government hospital for detox.

Why is a free government centre often not enough?

Government hospitals do good detox work, but beds are limited and stays are short. Without weeks of counselling, family involvement and follow-up, the risk of relapse after discharge is high. Many families use a government hospital first and then continue with a longer stay.

What is the difference between Essential, Comfort and Premium Care?

All three plans get the same psychiatrist-led treatment. The difference is the room (shared, fewer per room, or private) and the amount of one-to-one time with counsellors.

How do I find the most affordable nasha mukti kendra near me?

Call the free helpline 14446 to find the nearest government facility, check the state mental health authority's list of registered centres, and call two or three centres to compare fees. Eshan serves Kangra, Palampur, Dharamshala, Nurpur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Mandi, Una and the rest of Himachal.

How long can someone stay at Eshan?

The full residential programme runs up to 180 days. The right length depends on the person, the substance and how recovery is going, and the psychiatrist reviews it along the way.

Will my son be beaten, chained or locked in?

No. Eshan has a strict policy of no beating, no chains, no locked rooms and no forced pick-up. We treat residents with respect, and families are involved through counselling.

Is Eshan Charitable Trust a government nasha mukti kendra?

No. Eshan is a registered charitable trust, not a government centre. Its fees are set to stay within reach of ordinary Himachali families, from ₹12,500 a month.

How do I check if a rehab centre is registered in Himachal?

The HP State Mental Health Authority publishes a list of registered substance use treatment and rehabilitation centres on its website. Ask the centre for its registration details and compare them with that list.

Can health insurance pay for rehab in India?

The Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 requires insurers to cover mental illness on par with physical illness, but many policies still exclude addiction treatment. Check your policy and ask your insurer in writing. This is general information, not legal advice.
