Quick answer

If you are looking for a nasha mukti kendra in Manali, these are the four a family can realistically reach. The government Integrated Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre at Bhuntar, which is AIIMS-backed and the strongest clinical choice, the Gunjan Nasha Nivaran Kendra on Manikaran Road in Kullu, which is a government-funded IRCA, Eshan Charitable Trust in Kangra for families who want a long programme at a fee they can manage, and Sankalp Foundation at Bashing, about 42 km down the valley. None of these four nasha mukti kendra is inside Manali town itself.

That last sentence is the part other lists leave out. There is no nasha mukti kendra in Manali itself. Every option means going down the valley, and two of the four are a longer journey still. A page that tells you otherwise is selling you something.

This guide is published by Eshan Charitable Trust, a registered nasha mukti kendra in Kangra. We are one of the four listed, we are at number three, and we have said plainly where we are and how far that is. We are a private charitable trust, not a government centre. Details change, so please confirm before admission. Researched by the Eshan team, based on publicly available information.

How We Picked the Top 4 Nasha Mukti Kendra in Manali

Search "nasha mukti kendra in Manali" and you will get pages run from Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Delhi with "Manali" dropped into the heading and a mobile number that rings somewhere else. Several say "government approved", which is not a thing that exists for private centres in Himachal.

So we used a different test. A nasha mukti kendra only went on this list if we could verify it from a government source, its own site or mainstream reporting, and if a Manali family could actually get there in a day.

Verifiable from a real source

The Ministry of Social Justice IRCA list, the AIIMS Addiction Treatment Facility registry, hospital sources or newspaper reporting. Not a paid directory.

A real address you could drive to

A village, a road, a landmark. Not just the word "Manali" with a phone number underneath.

Reachable from Manali

Within the valley, or far enough away that the distance is a deliberate choice rather than an accident.

Honest about cost

Where a fee is not published we have written "call for fees" rather than inventing a number.

One thing worth saying before we rank the nasha mukti kendra in Manali and the valley below. On the state mental health authority register of private establishments that we were able to access, we did not find an entry in Kullu district. That register may be incomplete or behind, so treat it as a prompt rather than a verdict: ask any private centre in the valley for its registration number under the Mental Healthcare Act 2017 and check it yourself.

Four nasha mukti kendra options serving Manali, verified October 2026. Distances are approximate road distances and vary a lot in tourist season. Always ring before travelling.

1. Integrated Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre, Bhuntar, 50 km from Manali

1

The strongest clinical option, and it is government

Beds

NDDTC, AIIMS
Cost
Government funded

This is Himachal Pradesh's first Addiction Treatment Facility, launched in 2022 in collaboration with the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre of AIIMS, and it works as a satellite AIIMS centre for drug dependence treatment. Dr Satyavrat Vaidya is the facility in-charge, and he set it up after specialising in addiction medicine at NIMHANS.

What makes it genuinely different is the supply chain. AIIMS provides the restricted medicines that opioid treatment needs, through an automated inventory system, plus overdose prevention medication. AIIMS also supplies staff: a nodal officer, a medical officer, a matron, four nurses, a medical social worker and a data entry operator. Complex cases get consultation with specialists at NIMHANS in Bengaluru. Funding comes through the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Reporting describes separate buildings for men and women, a daily OPD, a homely rather than locked environment, freedom of movement, regular family visits and accommodation for an attendant. About 80 per cent of cases involve heroin, with patients coming from Una, Kangra and Punjab cities as well as Kullu district.

Good fit if: the person is on chitta or heroin, you want the best medical treatment available at government cost, and the family can manage the trip to Bhuntar.

The honest catch: 35 beds serve several districts and two states, so a bed is not guaranteed on the day you ring. Admissions are typically weeks rather than months.

If you only make one phone call after reading this page, make it this one. For a Manali family dealing with chitta, nothing else on the list matches what AIIMS backing actually buys.

2. Gunjan Nasha Nivaran Kendra, Manikaran Road, 45 km from Manali

2

The government-funded residential centre most people miss

Beds

This one appears on the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment's own state-wise list of Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts, run by the Gunjan Organisation for Community Development, listed at Nasha Nivaran Kendra near Jiya Toll Plaza on Manikaran Road, Kullu, with 15 beds.

An IRCA is the classic government-funded residential nasha mukti kendra model: a grant from the ministry to an NGO or trust, with in-patient treatment, stay and food provided free of cost under the scheme. It is the kind of place most families mean when they say "sarkari nasha mukti kendra", and it is the one that almost never shows up in a Google search because it does not run ads.

Good fit if: cost is the main barrier, you want residential treatment rather than an OPD visit, and you can get down the valley road from Manali.

The honest catch: the ministry list we worked from is a few years old, so ring and confirm the centre is still operating under the scheme and has a bed before you travel. Ring 14446 if you cannot reach them directly.

3. Eshan Charitable Trust, Kangra

3

Eshan Charitable TrustBest value in Himachal

Programme
Up to 180 days
From
₹12,500 a month
Admission
Usually 1 to 2 days

Start with the obvious. We are not in Manali. We are a registered charitable trust at Tanda Kholi in Kangra, close to Dr RPGMC Tanda, roughly 230 km and most of a day's drive from Manali. If you need somebody treated near home, the first two on this list are better answers and we will tell you so on the phone.

Where we earn a place on a Manali list is the gap the valley has. Bhuntar and the Gunjan IRCA can detox and stabilise someone in weeks. What is hard to find anywhere near Manali is the three to six months that follow, and that is the stretch which decides whether detox holds.

Our founder kept seeing Himachali families selling land or taking loans for rehab fees, or sending sons to unsafe centres with no doctor where people were locked up and beaten. He set up a charitable trust with one rule: proper psychiatrist-led treatment at a fee an ordinary Himachali family can pay. Not cheap care. Real care, made affordable.

The programme is residential, up to 180 days, with medically supervised detox, daily one to one counselling and group sessions, yoga and meditation at 6 am, family counselling, a relapse prevention plan and aftercare by follow-up calls and visits. There is no beating, no chains, no locked rooms and no forced pick-up, and we decline when asked to collect someone against their will.

Good fit if: detox has already been done or has not held, you need months rather than weeks, you want distance from the valley and the old supply, and ₹12,500 a month is manageable.

The honest catch: it is a long journey, we take men only, aged 18 and above, and we are private rather than free.

Two things Manali families raise on nearly every call. The first is confidentiality: Manali is a small town in the ways that matter, especially in season, and treatment outside the valley keeps it out of local conversation. The second is distance from the dealer, which is a real clinical advantage in the first months rather than a sales line, though we accept it happens to suit us.

4. Sankalp Foundation, Bashing, 42 km from Manali

4

A private option inside the valley

Location
Village Bashing, PO Babeli
Model
Whole Person Recovery
Fees
Call for fees

Sankalp Foundation operates at Village Bashing, PO Babeli, in Kullu tehsil and district. Its own site describes a Whole Person Recovery model delivered through experiential counsellors, people in recovery themselves, combining medical and psychological care with skills development, and lists psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, yoga instructors and vocational trainers among its staff. It says it serves Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur, Shimla, Hamirpur, Solan and Kangra.

Fees, bed count, programme length and registration details are not published on its site, so ask for all four directly.

Good fit if: you want a private residential option without leaving the valley, and you are able to visit and ask the questions in the next section.

The honest catch: with no published fees or registration number, you have to do that verification yourself. That is true of most private centres in the valley, not a criticism of this one.

Also Worth Knowing About

These did not make the top 4 nasha mukti kendra in Manali list, but they belong on your shortlist depending on the situation, and two of them are closer to Manali than anything else on this page.

  • Regional Hospital Kullu, Dhalpur. About 40 km from Manali and listed on the central Addiction Treatment Facility registry for inpatient and outpatient care. A 300 bed hospital with a trauma centre, so there is real medical backup if withdrawal goes badly. CMO office 01902-223077.
  • Civil Hospital Manali. The government hospital in town. Where you go for an overdose or a seizure, and where a referral comes from. We could not verify a dedicated de-addiction service, so we are not claiming one.
  • Naya Savera, Village Jhiri, Kullu. A private centre operating in the valley. Our team's enquiry put fees in the range of ₹17,000 to ₹25,000 a month, which is a figure from our own call rather than a published rate, so confirm it.
  • The District Mental Health Programme, Kullu. Not a building you can admit anyone to, but it can identify, counsel and refer, and it is free.

Nasha Mukti Kendra Near Manali for Women

If the person who needs help is a woman, the list changes completely, and this is the single most useful paragraph on this page for some families. Almost every nasha mukti kendra in Manali and the valley below it takes men only.

The answer for women

The Integrated De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre for women at Bhuntar, inaugurated by the Kullu Red Cross Society on 29 June 2022. Fifteen beds, women only, and it is free, including medicines and residential stay for one month. Admissions typically run 21 to 30 days and the OPD sees people from 10 am to 4 pm.

It also provides counselling for the patient and the family, vocational training, emergency referral to hospital, confidential treatment with follow-up after discharge, and outreach into schools and local organisations. Reporting as of January put it at 123 women admitted for residential treatment, with more than 180 further patients treated through the OPD.

Almost every private residential centre in Himachal, ours included, takes men only. If you are a Manali family with a daughter, wife or sister who needs treatment, this is the number to find first.

What to Check Before You Pay Any Nasha Mukti Kendra in Manali

Ask these of any nasha mukti kendra in Manali or the valley below it, including ours. A nasha mukti kendra that will not answer them has given you your answer.

  1. Show me the registration certificateUnder the Mental Healthcare Act 2017, registration with the Himachal Pradesh State Mental Health Authority is compulsory for every de-addiction and rehabilitation centre in the state. Note the number and verify it. Running a centre without it can attract a penalty of up to ₹5 lakh.
  2. Who is the doctor, by nameNot "we have a doctor" or "experienced staff". A name, a qualification and how often he actually visits. Then ask who is reachable at two in the morning.
  3. How long is the programme, and what happens in month threeAnyone can describe week one. If nobody can describe month three, there is no programme, only a stay.
  4. Fees in writing, including what is not includedMedicines, hospital referral, transport, and the refund position if he leaves on day twelve. On paper before admission, never after.
  5. Can we visit on a working weekdayNot a Sunday, when everything is quieter. Ask to see the rooms, the kitchen and the toilets, and to meet the counsellor who would work with him.
  6. What is the visiting and phone policySome structure is normal and protects early recovery. No contact at all is a warning sign, not strictness.
One rule that never changes

If a centre offers to send a vehicle and collect a grown adult against his will, walk away. That is not a lawful treatment service, and a centre willing to break the rules to get someone in is a centre that will break them once he is inside. We do not do forced pick-up and we decline when asked.

More About Our Centre

We have put ourselves at number three on a list where the first two are cheaper and closer. That is deliberate. If a free government centre in your own valley can do the job, it should, and we would rather tell you that than take an admission that was never right in the first place.

A fee an ordinary family can pay

Residential rehab in India runs from about twelve thousand rupees a month to several lakh. We sit at the bottom of that range, as a charitable trust rather than a business.

Psychiatrist-led, not staff-led

Full-time psychiatrist, medically supervised detox, and daily one to one counselling rather than a room and a routine.

Months, not weeks

Up to 180 days. Detox is the beginning. The months afterwards are what decide whether it holds.

Families are welcome

Family counselling is part of the programme, and you can visit and watch an ordinary working weekday before admitting anyone.

Our fees, stated plainly

Shared Residential Care

₹12,500

per month, shared room, standard diet

B Caring

₹25,000

per month, deluxe room, twin sharing, upgraded diet

A Caring

₹40,000

per month, private room, single occupancy, upgraded diet

Medically supervised detox is ₹6,000 once, at admission. The treatment is identical on every plan and only the room and the diet change. Accommodation and meals, prescribed medicines, doctor and psychiatrist reviews, counselling, group therapy, yoga at 6 am, fitness, all activities and family counselling are included. Families who cannot afford ₹12,500 should still call, because we reduce fees where we genuinely can.

Questions Families Ask About the Top Nasha Mukti Kendra in Manali

Which is the best nasha mukti kendra in Manali?

There is no nasha mukti kendra inside Manali town. For most families the strongest option is the government Integrated Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre at Bhuntar, about 50 km away, which is Himachal's first Addiction Treatment Facility and runs with AIIMS support including the restricted medicines opioid treatment needs. After that, the Gunjan Nasha Nivaran Kendra on Manikaran Road in Kullu is a government-funded IRCA with 15 beds, Eshan Charitable Trust in Kangra offers a longer programme from twelve thousand five hundred rupees a month, and Sankalp Foundation operates at Bashing, about 42 km from Manali.

Is there any nasha mukti kendra in Manali itself?

Not that we could verify from a government source, a hospital source or mainstream reporting. Civil Hospital Manali is the government hospital in town and is where you go for an overdose or a seizure, but we could not confirm a dedicated de-addiction service there. Every residential option means travelling down the valley, which is the thing most listing pages will not tell you.

Which nasha mukti kendra near Manali is free?

The Gunjan Nasha Nivaran Kendra in Kullu is an Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, and under that scheme in-patient treatment, stay and food are provided free of cost. The women's centre at Bhuntar, run by the Kullu Red Cross Society, is also free, including medicines and residential stay for one month. The Bhuntar Addiction Treatment Facility and Regional Hospital Kullu are government funded, so treatment there is free or at government rates.

How far are these centres from Manali?

Approximately: Sankalp Foundation at Bashing about 42 km, the Gunjan centre on Manikaran Road about 45 km, Bhuntar about 50 km, and Eshan Charitable Trust in Kangra about 230 km. In normal conditions the three valley options are an hour and a half to two hours from Manali, and considerably longer during tourist season when the road backs up. Kangra is most of a day's drive.

Why is a Kangra centre on a list for Manali?

Because of a real gap rather than a marketing trick, and we have labelled the distance plainly rather than hiding it. Bhuntar and the Gunjan IRCA can detox and stabilise someone within weeks. What is hard to find anywhere near Manali is the three to six months of counselling, routine and relapse prevention that follow, which is the stretch that decides whether detox holds. If you need treatment close to home, the first two on this list are better answers and we say so.

What is an IRCA?

An Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and usually run by an NGO, trust or Red Cross society. Under the scheme, in-patient treatment, stay and food are free of cost. It is the classic sarkari nasha mukti kendra model, and because these centres do not advertise they rarely appear in a search. The Ministry's state-wise list places one in Kullu district with 15 beds.

What does "government approved nasha mukti kendra in Manali" mean?

Usually nothing at all. There is no general government approval scheme for private de-addiction centres in Himachal. What exists is compulsory registration with the Himachal Pradesh State Mental Health Authority under the Mental Healthcare Act 2017, which carries a number you can verify. Pages claiming government approval with no scheme named, no registration number, no street address and the same mobile number across many towns are almost always private centres, often based in another state.

How do I check a centre is registered?

Ask for the certificate under the Mental Healthcare Act 2017, write down the number, and verify it with the Himachal Pradesh State Mental Health Authority in Shimla. Running a de-addiction centre in Himachal without registration can attract a penalty of up to five lakh rupees. On the register of private establishments we were able to access, we did not find a Kullu district entry, so ask any private centre in the valley for its number directly rather than assuming.

What do these centres cost?

The government and IRCA options are free or at government rates. Eshan Charitable Trust runs from twelve thousand five hundred rupees a month for shared residential care, up to forty thousand for a private room, with a one-time detox fee of six thousand. Sankalp Foundation does not publish fees, so call and ask. Our team's enquiry put Naya Savera at Jhiri in the seventeen to twenty five thousand rupee range, which is a figure from our own call rather than a published rate.

Is there a nasha mukti kendra for women near Manali?

Yes, and it is free. The Integrated De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre for women at Bhuntar was inaugurated by the Kullu Red Cross Society on 29 June 2022, has 15 beds, and provides free residential care for one month including medicines, with admissions typically 21 to 30 days and an OPD from 10 am to 4 pm. Almost every private residential centre in Himachal, ours included, takes men only, so this is the first number to find.

How long should someone stay?

Detox is roughly one to two weeks. Rehabilitation is measured in months, because habits, friendships and triggers built over years do not change in a fortnight. Government residential stays here are often around 21 to 30 days, which covers detox and stabilisation well. Longer private and trust programmes run three to six months, and the programme at Eshan Charitable Trust is up to 180 days.

Can a centre send a vehicle to collect him?

Taking a grown adult against his will is not a lawful treatment service, whatever is offered. Admission is normally voluntary, and admission without consent is allowed only in narrow situations under the Mental Healthcare Act 2017 after assessment by qualified professionals. A centre willing to break the rules to get someone in is a centre that will break them once he is inside. We do not offer forced pick-up and we decline when asked.

Should we choose a centre close to Manali or far away?

Close helps the family visit and join counselling, which matters. Distance removes the old supplier, the old friends and the old routes, which matters more in the first months when relapse is likeliest. If cost is the main barrier, stay close and use the free options. If detox has already failed once, distance is worth considering seriously.

Is charas treated the same as chitta here?

They behave differently. Charas has been part of this valley's economy for decades and tends to get normalised locally. Chitta, which is heroin, causes dependence far faster and has a much harder withdrawal, and the Bhuntar facility reports that about 80 per cent of its cases involve heroin. If someone has moved from charas to chitta, treat it as a serious escalation rather than more of the same.

What should we do first if someone in Manali is on chitta?

If he is unconscious, breathing poorly or having fits, call 108 immediately, because that is an emergency rather than a treatment decision. Otherwise ring 14446 for free referral guidance, get an assessment at Civil Hospital Manali so the journey down the valley is for treatment rather than paperwork, and phone Bhuntar or the Gunjan IRCA about a bed before you travel.

Researched by the Eshan team from publicly available information in October 2026. Centres were included only where we could verify them from a government source, the centre's own site or mainstream reporting. Where a fee, bed count or registration detail is not published, we have said so rather than estimating, and figures described as from our own enquiry are exactly that. Distances are approximate road distances. Government and private services change, so please confirm before travelling.
