If you are looking for a nasha mukti kendra in Kullu, you are in the best served district in Himachal Pradesh, and these are the four to know. The Addiction Treatment Facility at Bhuntar, which is AIIMS-backed and about 10 km from Kullu town, is the strongest clinical option in the state. The Gunjan Nasha Nivaran Kendra on the Manikaran road is a government-funded IRCA where residential treatment is free. Eshan Charitable Trust in Kangra is for families who need months rather than weeks. Sankalp Foundation at Bashing is the private option nearest to Kullu town.
Here is the part most listing pages get wrong about Kullu. People in this district search for a nasha mukti kendra in Kullu and land on a page run from Punjab or Uttarakhand, and never find out that Kullu holds one of only three government Addiction Treatment Facilities in the whole of Himachal Pradesh, and the only one in the state with a ward for transgender patients. The treatment is here. The information is not.
This guide is published by Eshan Charitable Trust, a registered nasha mukti kendra in Kangra. We are one of the four listed, we are at number three, and we have said plainly where we are and how far that is. We are a private charitable trust, not a government centre. Details change, so please confirm before admission. Researched by the Eshan team, based on publicly available information.
How We Picked the Top 4 Nasha Mukti Kendra in Kullu
Search "nasha mukti kendra in Kullu" and most of the first page is run from outside the state. A Kullu landmark in the heading, a mobile number that rings in another district, and often the phrase "government approved", which does not exist for private centres in Himachal.
So we used a different test. A nasha mukti kendra only went on this list if we could verify it from a government record, its own site or mainstream reporting, and if a family in Kullu could actually get there.
Verifiable from a real source
The central Addiction Treatment Facility registry, the Ministry of Social Justice IRCA list, hospital records or newspaper reporting. Not a paid directory.
A real address you could drive to
A village, a road, a landmark. Not just the word "Kullu" with a phone number underneath.
Reachable from Kullu town
Inside the district, or far enough away that the distance is a deliberate clinical choice rather than an accident.
Honest about cost
Where a fee is not published we have written "call for fees" rather than inventing a number.

One thing worth saying before we rank the nasha mukti kendra in Kullu. On the state mental health authority register of private establishments that we were able to access, we did not find a Kullu district entry. That register may be incomplete or behind, so treat it as a prompt rather than a verdict: ask any private centre in the valley for its registration number under the Mental Healthcare Act 2017 and check it yourself.

Four nasha mukti kendra options serving Kullu, verified October 2026. Distances are approximate road distances and vary a lot in tourist season. Always ring before travelling.
1. Addiction Treatment Facility, Bhuntar, 10 km from Kullu
The best addiction treatment in Himachal, and it is government
- Beds
- 34, including 15 for women
- Backed by
- NDDTC, AIIMS
- Cost
- Government funded
On the central registry this facility is listed as Regional Hospital Kullu, which confuses people, because the treatment itself runs from three buildings at Manikaran Chowk in Bhuntar, roughly 8 to 10 km down the valley from the hospital at Dhalpur. Same facility, two names. If you ring the hospital and get passed around, ask for the Addiction Treatment Facility at Bhuntar by name.
It is Himachal Pradesh's first Addiction Treatment Facility, launched in 2022 with the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre of AIIMS, and it works as a satellite AIIMS centre for drug dependence treatment. Dr Satyavrat Vaidya is the nodal officer and facility in-charge, and he identified the need for an ATF in government hospitals back in 2020.
What makes it genuinely different is the supply chain. AIIMS provides the restricted medicines that opioid treatment needs, through an automated inventory system, plus overdose prevention medication. AIIMS also supplies staff, and complex cases are discussed with specialists at NIMHANS in Bengaluru. Funding comes through the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. No private centre in this valley has anything comparable behind it.
The registry lists an OPD with registration, pharmacy, an injection room and counselling, and an inpatient ward with separate male, female and transgender accommodation, a nursing station, group and individual therapy run daily, and recreation. Gardening, occupational therapy and yoga are part of the day. Family members can visit regularly and an attendant can stay with the patient. About 80 per cent of registered cases involve heroin.
The facility helpline is 9805065102, and the email on the government registry is rkskulluhp@gmail.com. The address is Near Subzi Mandi, Manikaran Chowk, Bhuntar, Kullu, 175126. The team listed on the registry is Dr Satyavrat Vaidya as in-charge, Dr Shubhreet as medical officer, Aakash Verma as counsellor, Champa Devi and Jyoti Kumari as nurses, and Yadvinder Singh as data manager.
Good fit if: the person is on chitta or heroin, you want the best medical treatment available at government cost, and you live anywhere in Kullu district.
The honest catch: 34 beds serve several districts and patients come from as far as Una, Kangra, Amritsar and Ludhiana, so a bed is not guaranteed on the day you ring. Admissions are typically weeks rather than months.
In April 2025 the state Chief Secretary visited and called it a model initiative in the fight against drug abuse. That is unusual language for a government de-addiction centre and, having read what the facility actually offers, we think it is deserved. If you only make one phone call after reading this page, make it this one.
It is also worth knowing what Dr Vaidya has said publicly about how families and neighbours behave. He has warned against shaming addicts and their families on social media, saying such actions do more harm than good, and cautioned against confronting a user directly because of the risk of a violent reaction. His position is that addiction needs medication, counselling and continuous support rather than punishment. Coming from the man who runs the district's main facility, that is worth hearing before you do anything.
2. Gunjan Nasha Nivaran Kendra, Manikaran Road, 12 km from Kullu
The free residential nasha mukti kendra in Kullu most people miss
- Beds
- 15
- Scheme
- IRCA, MoSJE funded
- Cost
- Free under the scheme
This one appears on the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment's own state-wise list of Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts, run by the Gunjan Organisation for Community Development, listed at Nasha Nivaran Kendra near Jiya Toll Plaza on Manikaran Road, Kullu, with 15 beds.
An IRCA is the classic government-funded residential nasha mukti kendra model: a grant from the ministry to an NGO or trust, with in-patient treatment, stay and food provided free of cost under the scheme. It is the kind of place most families mean when they say "sarkari nasha mukti kendra", and it is the one that almost never shows up in a Google search because it does not run ads. If cost is the reason nobody in your family has been treated yet, this is the entry on the list that removes the reason.
Good fit if: cost is the main barrier, you want residential treatment rather than an OPD visit, and you are anywhere in Kullu district.
The honest catch: the ministry list we worked from is a few years old, so ring and confirm the centre is still operating under the scheme and has a bed before you travel. Ring 14446 if you cannot reach them directly.
3. Eshan Charitable Trust, Kangra
Eshan Charitable TrustBest value in Himachal
- Programme
- Up to 180 days
- From
- ₹12,500 a month
- Admission
- Usually 1 to 2 days
Start with the obvious. We are not in Kullu. We are a registered charitable trust at Tanda Kholi in Kangra, close to Dr RPGMC Tanda, roughly 190 km and the better part of a day's drive from Kullu town. If you need somebody treated near home, the first two on this list are better answers and we will tell you so on the phone.
Where we earn a place on a Kullu list is the gap the district has, and Kullu has one specific gap. The Bhuntar facility and the Gunjan IRCA can detox and stabilise someone properly, and they do it better than most of India manages. What is hard to find anywhere in Kullu is the three to six months after that, and the months after detox are the stretch that decides whether detox holds.
Our founder kept seeing Himachali families selling land or taking loans for rehab fees, or sending sons to unsafe centres with no doctor where people were locked up and beaten. He set up a charitable trust with one rule: proper psychiatrist-led treatment at a fee an ordinary Himachali family can pay. Not cheap care. Real care, made affordable.
The programme is residential, up to 180 days, with medically supervised detox, daily one to one counselling and group sessions, yoga and meditation at 6 am, family counselling, a relapse prevention plan and aftercare by follow-up calls and visits. There is no beating, no chains, no locked rooms and no forced pick-up, and we decline when asked to collect someone against their will.
Good fit if: detox has already been done at Bhuntar or elsewhere and has not held, you need months rather than weeks, you want distance from the valley and the old supply, and ₹12,500 a month is manageable.
The honest catch: it is a long journey, we take men only, aged 18 and above, and we are private rather than free.
Two things Kullu families raise on nearly every call. The first is that the valley is small in the ways that matter and everybody knows everybody, so treatment outside the district keeps it out of local conversation. The second is distance from the dealer. In a district where chitta is sold in villages people can name, putting a few hundred kilometres between a man and his supply during the first months is a real clinical advantage rather than a sales line, though we accept it happens to suit us.
4. Sankalp Foundation, Bashing, 5 km from Kullu
The private option closest to Kullu town
- Location
- Village Bashing, PO Babeli
- Model
- Whole Person Recovery
- Fees
- Call for fees
Sankalp Foundation operates at Village Bashing, PO Babeli, in Kullu tehsil and district, which makes it the nearest private residential option to Kullu town on this list. Its own site describes a Whole Person Recovery model delivered through experiential counsellors, people in recovery themselves, combining medical and psychological care with skills development, and lists psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, yoga instructors and vocational trainers among its staff. It says it serves Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur, Shimla, Hamirpur, Solan and Kangra.
Fees, bed count, programme length and registration details are not published on its site, so ask for all four directly.
Good fit if: you want a private residential option without leaving the district, and you are able to visit and ask the questions in the next section.
The honest catch: with no published fees or registration number, you have to do that verification yourself. That is true of most private centres in the valley, not a criticism of this one.
Also Worth Knowing About
These did not make the top 4 nasha mukti kendra in Kullu list, but they belong on your shortlist depending on the situation.
- Regional Hospital Kullu, Dhalpur. The 300 bed district hospital with a trauma centre, and the institution the Addiction Treatment Facility is registered under. This is where you go if withdrawal turns into a medical emergency. CMO office 01902-223077.
- The women's centre at Bhuntar. Covered in its own section below, because for a family with a daughter, wife or sister it is not an also-ran, it is the answer.
- Naya Savera, Village Jhiri, Kullu. A private centre operating in the valley. Our team's enquiry put fees in the range of ₹17,000 to ₹25,000 a month, which is a figure from our own call rather than a published rate, so confirm it.
- The District Mental Health Programme, Kullu. Not a building you can admit anyone to, but it can identify, counsel and refer, and it is free.
- Civil Hospital Manali and the sub-divisional hospitals. For families at the top of the valley, the government hospital nearest you handles the emergency and writes the referral. We could not verify dedicated de-addiction services at these, so we are not claiming any.
Nasha Mukti Kendra in Kullu for Women
If the person who needs help is a woman, the list changes completely, and this is the single most useful section on this page for some families. Almost every nasha mukti kendra in Kullu and across Himachal takes men only. Kullu is the exception, and it is the exception for the whole state.
The Integrated Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre for women at Bhuntar, set up in 2022 and run by the District Red Cross Society. Fifteen beds, women only, with an all-women staff including doctors, psychologists and yoga therapists. Serious cases admitted for detoxification are treated free, with free boarding, lodging, recreation and regular medical monitoring.
It is the only centre in Himachal Pradesh offering comprehensive care for women with addiction. Since 2022 it has treated 482 women through outpatient and inpatient programmes, at a project cost of about ₹1.28 crore funded jointly by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Red Cross Society. Services run from identification and counselling through detoxification to aftercare, and after treatment the centre assesses what each woman needs and arranges vocational training so she can support herself.
In November 2024 the Kullu district administration received a Skoch Award for the project. We mention it not because awards treat anybody, but because a family deciding whether to trust a government centre with a daughter is entitled to know that people outside the district have looked at this one closely.
Almost every private residential centre in Himachal, ours included, takes men only. If you are a Kullu family with a woman who needs treatment, you have something no other district in the state has. Use it.
What to Check Before You Pay Any Nasha Mukti Kendra in Kullu
Ask these of any nasha mukti kendra in Kullu, including ours. A nasha mukti kendra that will not answer them has given you your answer.
- Show me the registration certificateUnder the Mental Healthcare Act 2017, registration with the Himachal Pradesh State Mental Health Authority is compulsory for every de-addiction and rehabilitation centre in the state. Note the number and verify it. Running a centre without it can attract a penalty of up to ₹5 lakh.
- Who is the doctor, by nameNot "we have a doctor" or "experienced staff". A name, a qualification and how often he actually visits. Then ask who is reachable at two in the morning.
- How long is the programme, and what happens in month threeAnyone can describe week one. If nobody can describe month three, there is no programme, only a stay.
- Fees in writing, including what is not includedMedicines, hospital referral, transport, and the refund position if he leaves on day twelve. On paper before admission, never after.
- Can we visit on a working weekdayNot a Sunday, when everything is quieter. Ask to see the rooms, the kitchen and the toilets, and to meet the counsellor who would work with him.
- What is the visiting and phone policySome structure is normal and protects early recovery. No contact at all is a warning sign, not strictness.
If a centre offers to send a vehicle and collect a grown adult against his will, walk away. That is not a lawful treatment service, and a centre willing to break the rules to get someone in is a centre that will break them once he is inside. We do not do forced pick-up and we decline when asked.

More About Our Centre
We have put ourselves at number three on a list where the first two are free and a great deal closer. That is deliberate. Kullu has better government addiction treatment than almost anywhere in Himachal, and if that can do the job for your family, it should. We would rather tell you that than take an admission that was never right in the first place.
A fee an ordinary family can pay
Residential rehab in India runs from about twelve thousand rupees a month to several lakh. We sit at the bottom of that range, as a charitable trust rather than a business.
Psychiatrist-led, not staff-led
Full-time psychiatrist, medically supervised detox, and daily one to one counselling rather than a room and a routine.
Months, not weeks
Up to 180 days. Detox is the beginning. The months afterwards are what decide whether it holds.
Families are welcome
Family counselling is part of the programme, and you can visit and watch an ordinary working weekday before admitting anyone.
Our fees, stated plainly
Shared Residential Care
₹12,500per month, shared room, standard diet
B Caring
₹25,000per month, deluxe room, twin sharing, upgraded diet
A Caring
₹40,000per month, private room, single occupancy, upgraded diet
Medically supervised detox is ₹6,000 once, at admission. The treatment is identical on every plan and only the room and the diet change. Accommodation and meals, prescribed medicines, doctor and psychiatrist reviews, counselling, group therapy, yoga at 6 am, fitness, all activities and family counselling are included. Families who cannot afford ₹12,500 should still call, because we reduce fees where we genuinely can.
What former residents say

"Best decision I took. Staff treated me like family, and the morning yoga and group sessions really helped me stay on track. Thank you Eshan team."

"Proper doctor for detox and very good counsellors. Nobody treats you like a criminal here. Highly recommend."

"I was scared rehab would be like a jail. It's nothing like that. Peaceful place, respectful staff. Got my life back."

"Clean rooms, ghar jaisa khana and mountains all around. My family was part of the counselling too. Thank you Eshan"

Questions Families Ask About the Top Nasha Mukti Kendra in Kullu
Which is the best nasha mukti kendra in Kullu?
For most families it is the government Addiction Treatment Facility at Bhuntar, about 10 km from Kullu town. It is Himachal Pradesh's first ATF, it runs as a satellite centre of the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre at AIIMS, and that backing gives it the restricted medicines opioid treatment needs, which private centres in the valley cannot get. The helpline is 9805065102. After that, the Gunjan Nasha Nivaran Kendra on the Manikaran road is a government-funded IRCA with 15 free beds, Eshan Charitable Trust in Kangra offers a longer programme from twelve thousand five hundred rupees a month, and Sankalp Foundation at Bashing is the nearest private option to Kullu town.
Is there a free nasha mukti kendra in Kullu?
Yes, more than one. The Gunjan Nasha Nivaran Kendra is an Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, and under that scheme in-patient treatment, stay and food are provided free of cost. The Addiction Treatment Facility at Bhuntar is government funded, so treatment there is free or at government rates. The women's centre at Bhuntar, run by the District Red Cross Society, treats serious cases free including boarding, lodging and medical monitoring. Cost is genuinely not a reason to go untreated in this district.
What is the phone number for the de-addiction centre in Kullu?
The Addiction Treatment Facility at Bhuntar lists 9805065102 as its helpline on the national ATF registry, with rkskulluhp@gmail.com as the email. For the district hospital, the Chief Medical Officer's office in Kullu is 01902-223077. If you cannot get through to either, 14446 is the free national de-addiction helpline and will refer you, and 14416 is Tele MANAS for mental health support in your own language, including for family members.
Where exactly is the Bhuntar de-addiction centre?
Near Subzi Mandi at Manikaran Chowk in Bhuntar, Kullu district, pincode 175126, in three buildings roughly 8 to 10 km down the valley from Regional Hospital Kullu at Dhalpur. The national registry lists the facility under the hospital's name, which is why searching for it can be confusing. Ask for the Addiction Treatment Facility at Bhuntar by name rather than for the hospital.
Is there a nasha mukti kendra in Kullu for women?
Yes, and it is the only one of its kind in Himachal Pradesh. The Integrated Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre for women at Bhuntar was set up in 2022 and is run by the District Red Cross Society, with 15 beds and an all-women staff including doctors, psychologists and yoga therapists. Serious cases admitted for detoxification are treated free, with free boarding, lodging, recreation and medical monitoring. It has treated 482 women since 2022 and the district administration received a Skoch Award for it in November 2024.
How many beds does the Bhuntar facility have?
The national Addiction Treatment Facility registry lists 34 beds, of which 15 are for women, with one room with an attached washroom set aside for transgender patients and the remainder for men. Those beds serve patients from several districts and from outside the state, including Una, Kangra, Amritsar and Ludhiana, so a bed is not guaranteed on the day you ring. Call ahead rather than arriving unannounced.
Is there treatment in Kullu for transgender patients?
The Addiction Treatment Facility at Bhuntar is the only centre we could verify in Himachal Pradesh that lists a separate transgender ward, described on the national registry as one room with an attached washroom alongside the male and female wards. If this applies to your family, ring 9805065102 and ask directly about current availability, because one room is a small provision and we would not want you to travel on the strength of a registry entry alone.
What is an ATF?
An Addiction Treatment Facility, run inside a government hospital with technical and clinical support from the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre at AIIMS, funded through the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. AIIMS supplies the restricted medicines that opioid dependence treatment requires, along with an automated inventory system and overdose prevention medication, and complex cases are discussed with specialists at NIMHANS in Bengaluru. There are only three ATFs in all of Himachal Pradesh, and Kullu has one of them.
What is an IRCA?
An Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and usually run by an NGO, trust or Red Cross society. Under the scheme, in-patient treatment, stay and food are free of cost. It is the classic sarkari nasha mukti kendra model, and because these centres do not advertise they rarely appear in a search. The Ministry's state-wise list places one in Kullu district with 15 beds.
How do I check a nasha mukti kendra in Kullu is registered?
Ask for the certificate under the Mental Healthcare Act 2017, write down the number, and verify it with the Himachal Pradesh State Mental Health Authority in Shimla. Running a de-addiction centre in Himachal without registration can attract a penalty of up to five lakh rupees. On the register of private establishments we were able to access, we did not find a Kullu district entry, so ask any private centre in the valley for its number directly rather than assuming.
What does "government approved nasha mukti kendra in Kullu" mean?
Usually nothing at all. There is no government approval scheme for private de-addiction centres in Himachal Pradesh. What exists is compulsory registration under the Mental Healthcare Act 2017 with the state mental health authority, which is a legal requirement rather than an endorsement. A centre that says it is government approved but cannot produce a registration number is telling you something about itself. Genuinely government centres are the ATF at Bhuntar, the IRCA on the Manikaran road, the women's centre and the district hospital.
How much does a private nasha mukti kendra in Kullu cost?
Private residential centres in Himachal generally run from about twelve thousand rupees a month at the affordable end to several lakh at the top. Our own enquiry put one Kullu private centre in the range of seventeen to twenty five thousand rupees a month, which is a figure from our call rather than a published rate. Sankalp Foundation does not publish fees, so you have to ask. Our own fees start at twelve thousand five hundred rupees a month with a one time detox charge of six thousand rupees. Before you pay anybody, get the figure in writing including what is not covered.
Why is a Kangra centre on a list for Kullu?
Because of a real gap rather than a marketing trick, and we have labelled the distance plainly rather than hiding it. Kullu has better government detox and stabilisation than almost any district in Himachal. What is hard to find here is the three to six months of counselling, routine and relapse prevention that follow, which is the stretch that decides whether detox holds. If you need treatment close to home, the first two on this list are better answers and we say so.
What should we do first if someone in Kullu is on chitta?
If he is unconscious, breathing poorly or having fits, call 108 immediately, because that is an emergency rather than a treatment decision. Otherwise ring the Bhuntar facility on 9805065102 and describe what is happening, or 14446 for free referral guidance. Do not confront him in anger and do not post about it publicly. The doctor who runs the district facility has warned that shaming families on social media does more harm than good and that direct confrontation risks a violent reaction.
Can a nasha mukti kendra in Kullu admit someone by force?
No, and any centre offering to send a vehicle and collect a grown adult against his will is not running a lawful treatment service. The Mental Healthcare Act 2017 sets out how admission works and what rights the person has. A centre willing to break those rules to get someone in is a centre that will break them once he is inside. We do not do forced pick-up and we decline when we are asked.
How long does treatment actually take?
Detox is usually one to three weeks depending on the substance and how long he has used, and government admissions at Bhuntar and the IRCA typically run in weeks. That part is the beginning rather than the treatment. The evidence and our own experience both point to three to six months of structured residential care for someone who has relapsed before, because the months after detox are when the habit either breaks or returns. Our programme runs up to 180 days for that reason.
Does Kullu have a district mental health programme?
Yes. The District Mental Health Programme in Kullu is not a place you can admit anyone to, but it can identify, counsel and refer, and it is free. It is a sensible first call if you are not sure whether what you are seeing is addiction, a mental health problem, or both, and you want someone to talk it through before committing the family to a residential admission anywhere.

Researched by the Eshan team from publicly available information in October 2026. Centres were included only where we could verify them from a government source, the centre's own site or mainstream reporting. Where a fee, bed count or registration detail is not published, we have said so rather than estimating, and figures described as from our own enquiry are exactly that. Distances are approximate road distances. Government and private services change, so please confirm before travelling.
